The Global Lives Project is a video library of life experience, designed to cultivate empathy across cultures. We curate an ever-expanding collection of films that faithfully capture 24 continuous hours in the lives of individuals from around the world. We explore the diversity of human experience through the medium of video, and encourage discussion, reflection, and inquiry about the wide variety of cultures, ethnicities, languages, and religions on this planet. From Indonesian team we filmed Dadah, a mother of three from Sarimukti, a Sundanese village in the highlands of West Java. Dadah and her husband are farm workers on a state-owned plantation that dates back to Dutch colonial days. They are Muslims and active members of the Pasundan Farmer’s Union, which lobbies for both land re-distributions among farmers and children education. She was 32 years old during her Global Lives Project shoot in 2008.
